Yes, the MonaLisa Twins cover of 'God Only Knows' is wonderful. They have many, many more excellent in-studio covers and original songs. But, they excel in live performance!! Note that is their dad playing the Hofner bass. He does (or did ... not sure about now) all of the audio and video recording. He was a professional recording producer/engineer in Austria, where they are originally from. They moved to Liverpool. They did a couple of years residency at The Cavern Club. Check out a YT video of their cover of The Beatles 'You're Going To Lose That Girl' - from their YT channel. Thanks for all of your excellent reaction videos, Jeff.

It's the resonance for me. 55 yrs on the planet and being mostly a rock - Jeff Beck, Steely Dan, Allman Bros Band, etc and prog jazz enthusiast - Return To Forever, Manhattan Transfer, Mahavishnu Orchestra, Weather Report - type of listener, I've never heard anyone with as much depth as hers.

GROOVY!!! It's their favorite term and they are inspired and obsessed with the music of the 1960's. Even the music they write has a sixties sound to it. I first started listening to them when I heard their live music from 'The Cavern Club' in England doing so many great Beatles songs but also songs from other artist of that 60's era. Then of course I had to go back and look at all of their videos old and new. They have matured so much but even those videos from years ago are certainly worth listening to. And yes the guy playing bass was their father. They are from Austria but now live in England They just make it fun to listen to those songs again half a century later. And yes I did say, 'again', as I'm 71 years old. Love them and have all of their CD's. Great job Jeff. You certainly need to hear more of these beautiful twin sisters and so do we!

Isn't it fantastic!! As a choir singer, I have to say how heart-warming it is when your conductor is moved and delighted at the end of a performance, as he was in this case. Mahler 8 is an exhausting and challenging sing, but so worth the hours and hours of rehearsal. Thank you for reacting to this. I will definitely look up this conductor and the very impressive amateur orchestra!

He recently did a remake of 'Sly' by Herbie Hancock where he plays all instruments. You HAVE to view that one, his musicianship left me speechless.

Hi Jeff. I'm glad to see you finally got to the incredibly talented twins (I mentioned them to you a couple of years ago when you took up my recommendation to check out Martha and Lucy Thomas). The base player is their father who is a sound engineer and his job is the reason why this Austrian family relocated to Liverpool. Mona and Lisa have a great range of covers and they have some very good original material. It is not better.., the cover is great but they didn't write this masterpiece. Steely Dan owns this forever, no matter who covers this.

By Spring, 1970, this song was The One to learn for campfires and under-the-tree campus jams. The combo of an acoustic and electric guitar was a door opener for hallway jams - every guitarist HAD to learn this, hopefully from getting this album at least for Christmas, 1969. (Released in Aug, 1969)... WILD HORSES off of Sticky Fingers... HESITATION BLUES by Hot Tuna... anyone who'd deciphered Leo Kottke's tunings... or thought they had...lotsa CSN... park and picnic jams were so wonderful heading into the summer of 1970.)

I've been a fan of Mona and Lisa since even before L&F! You should check out their original material! A song called "Still a Friend of Mine" will bring you to tears! They do tons of Beatles covers and most of their original material has a 60's vibe.

And to think that 'God Only Knows' was a 'B Side' afterthought. It was the fans that applied pressure to hear the song in concerts and could very well be the most popular song they ever performed.

In a way, this is better than the original. When The Ides of March recorded this, they were all quite young, either still in high school or just out, so the members (especially the horn players) just weren't as mature and polished as Leonid's players are.

Hey Jeff……that was really cool watching another really talented group taking on another great early Chicago tune that for obvious reasons, didn’t receive much, if any radio time. Cool to hear that you are hearing some old Chicago tunes that you may have not been aware of until now with this group and some of the ones that Leonid is doing! This tune, “It Better end Soon” is a 4-Movement Suite that kicks off Side 4 of Chicago II (2). You should check out the whole album if you haven’t yet…..one of my favorites!! Thanks again for your great reactions!

I gotta say, it feels like Christmas to me that you plan to check out more! I hope you get trapped in that rabbit hole. First band that I’ve absolutely fallen in love with for decades. You cannot miss with any live track…I’ve watched and listened to them every night for the past year and they always deliver. They’ve had the same twelve piece ensemble together for the past five-ish years. All are accomplished at their craft and all get a chance to shine during the show. A lot of call and response, trading licks, etc, etc. One of my favorites is “Laugh About It” at the Tivoli Theater. Then maybe The Beacon 50th show and just start with the first song “Don’t Let Me Slide” where you get to see Susan flex on guitar trading leads and licks with Derek and you’re off to the races! As for the two drummers, Derek is the nephew of the late drummer Butch Trucks a founding member of The Allman Brothers Band, who had two drummers. Derek played with them during the 2000s. In TTB they complement each other and basically are often playing the same beat but a little differently, for instance as the band fades into Midnight in Harlem one guy is hitting the snare and the other is cross sticking, but otherwise their right hand and feet are the same. The Grateful Dead is the other band that leaps to mind that had two drummers who, I would say, did more of their own thing, one sometimes playing more as a percussionist, or maybe throwing in some polyrhythmic stuff.
